Prior owners of these trademarks have successfully prevented Cuba from selling products labeled with these controversial marks in countries who generally accept global copyrights and trademarks. Cuba has threatened to retaliate against USA interests in Cuba by not protecting well known USA trademarks within Cuba.

Many USA companies have started new businesses, developed trademarked products and services and purchased internet domain names to "brand" a quasi-affiliation with future Cuba.
